I love my job.
In the last 5 years, I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, CAHSEE prep, Study Hall, Beginning Percussion, and Advanced Percussion.
I’ve been senior advisor, math department head, and I’ve written a section of the document for accreditation.
…and I don’t have it all figured out. Despite teaching in three districts (including a charter school) and getting affirmed from students, parents, and administrators, I don’t think that I’ve arrived.
I think that’s okay–good, even.
I think that it’s dangerous to feel that you’ve earned a seat at the Teacher Jedi Council, because then it’s tempting to coast while at work.
I’m still looking for a better way to do what I’m doing, and I hope to get there by the time I’m 59, and retire to raise my padawans.
It is my hope that you, the reader, will see my heart in these writings and that you’ll notice my humility.
And if you see arrogance, call it out.
